It’s a buyer’s market, or it was a buyer’s market a couple of years ago, and probably even 3 months ago.

Things have changed again. The market in IT swings really quickly.

Now that there’s a lot of projects coming online, a lot of candidates are able to be a little bit more choosey and really leverage their skill sets in areas that weren’t previously available to them a year or so ago.

As a result there’s a lot of demand in certain spaces and a lot of heat around salaries and heat around wages for those people.

If you’re not willing to compete on that basis as an organisation, you’re probably going to find it hard to attract the right person at the right time.

Candidates are in a situation where they’re given choice again.

That ties into the fact that you should look at your base salary offer, look at the value proposition for your business. Look at what you can offer in terms of intrinsic value beyond salaries.

Attraction as a package is a whole thing now, it’s not just about the money. So going back to budgets, have a look at those things, have a look at what you can do to retain and keep good people, and attract them to your business for the long term.
