Join the Food Fight – Help Sense support WA families

In light of WA’s current economic state and the number of people we encounter who are struggling to find work Sense Recruitment will be supporting local organisation Foodbank to help families fight hunger in WA.

Are there really hungry people in Australia?

Yes there are. Hunger is a hidden crisis in Australia, with over 2 million people seeking food relief at some point every year, half of which are children. In fact, the demand for food relief is rising, irrespective of national economic growth.

It is also a common misconception that only homeless people require food relief. However, the main recipients of food relief are individuals and families who have generally low incomes or are unemployed, not just those who are homeless. The face of hunger in Australia is diverse – it affects males, females, children, the elderly, single people and families, students, employed, unemployed and retired people. High risk groups include people with disabilities, refugees and Indigenous Australians. Some of the common reasons why people find themselves seeking food relief include a lack of funds to pay rent and bills, and unexpected expenses such as car repairs or medical bills.

Where does the food go?

Foodbank supports over 500 charities and welfare agencies who provide food relief to people and families in times of need. Food donated through Food Drives like the Festive Appeal will go to struggling families, singles, seniors, unemployed and homeless people as food parcels or prepared meals across Perth and into our regional centres in Peel, Bunbury, Albany, Kalgoorlie and Geraldton. Last December, Foodbank WA provided enough food for more than 575,000 meals.  The demand for food relief in WA is rising and we need your help.

Every can makes a difference!

You can help by donating food in Tins & Cans,  Packaged,  Plastic,  Long life and Baby Food (No Glass or Bottles please).  We have a Food Donation Basket at our office at 6/996 Hay Street and ask that every candidate or client coming to visit at our offices can bring food or our Sense Recruitment team will happily come and collect from your offices if you can organise a team collection for us.  Just make sure the boxes aren’t too heavy.

Thank you for helping us make WA a better place for everybody.
