AI Is Not Taking Your Job. Or Ours.

Let’s get one thing straight. AI is not taking your job. And it is not taking ours either.

Yes, the tools are getting smarter. And yes, they are already changing the way we work. But what they are really doing is removing the noise – not replacing the people.

In recruitment, that means:

  • Automating repetitive admin
  • Speeding up search and sourcing
  • Helping us get to the right people, faster

That is not a threat. That is a time saver.

Because the heart of recruitment is still deeply human. AI cannot read between the lines of a career gap. It cannot spot potential in someone with a non-linear path. It cannot talk a client through a tough decision or help a candidate reframe a rejection into next steps.

What it can do is free us up to do more of the work that matters – the conversations, the judgement calls, the advocacy, the relationships.

We are not scared of the tools. We are using them. But we are using them on purpose.

And if you are wondering what that means for your own job? Think about the parts of your work that need empathy, strategy or context. Those parts are not going anywhere. In fact, they will be worth more.

AI might change what your role looks like. But it will not change why it matters.

At Sense, we are not resisting the future. We are building it – with people at the centre.

Sourcing and Screening

AI tools have changed how we search. Platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter and smart ATS systems use machine learning to surface candidates based on patterns and behaviour, not just keywords. These tools save us hours and help us uncover great people we might not have found otherwise. They also help us run smarter Boolean searches across different platforms, making our sourcing more targeted and effective.

But we still screen every CV. We use our judgement. We meet people. We ask the questions and listen properly, because that is where the real insight lives.

Workflow and Automation

We use automation to help with speed. Application acknowledgements, scheduling, keeping things moving. Candidates get timely updates and hiring managers see progress sooner.

But when it comes to decision making, it is always human. Always.

Bias Reduction and Data Insights

Well built AI can support fairer shortlisting by filtering based on objective criteria, especially in high volume roles. But AI only reflects the data it is trained on. Left unchecked, it can reinforce bias, not reduce it.

That is why we keep humans in the loop. To challenge assumptions and make sure decisions are made with context, not just convenience.

WHAT ABOUT CANDIDATES USING AI

Let us be honest. We know candidates are using ChatGPT and other tools to write their resumes. And to be fair, some of those tools are incredibly helpful. They can clean up formatting, clarify your message and help you get unstuck when you are struggling to write about yourself.

But there is a fine line between getting help and handing over the wheel.

We can tell when a resume has been fully AI generated. The language is too polished, too generic and often lacks the nuance of your actual experience. And when we speak to you, if the story does not match the document, it shows.

Our advice? Use AI as a helper, not a ghostwriter. Make sure your resume still sounds like you. Inject your own voice, your real achievements and the context behind your career moves. That is what we connect with.

Smart Prompts for a Better Resume

If you are using AI to help with your resume, here are a few prompts that actually work — and help you stand out instead of blending in:

  • “Act like a recruiter in [industry]. What is missing from this resume that would stop you from reaching out?”
  • “Rewrite my resume summary to feel confident, clear and tailored to this job: [paste job description].”
  • “Turn these bullet points into achievement focused statements. Add metrics wherever possible.”
  • “Format this resume so it is easy to scan, clean to read and works on any system.”

Used well, AI can help you get past blank page syndrome and polish what you have already done. Just remember to read it back and ask — does this sound like me?

Every Application. Every Time.

We read every CV ourselves. No filters. No robots doing the shortlist. Just real people with real recruitment experience reviewing your application personally.

Everyone gets feedback. It is one of our non negotiables.

Sally, our trusty robot, has been automatically responding to applications for more than a decade. That first email simply lets you know we have received your application and that you are officially in the process. We think it is only fair that you are not left wondering if your CV disappeared into the void.

And while we do use templated responses — especially for high volume roles — they are carefully written, thoughtfully categorised and always point you to next steps or other opportunities where relevant. You are encouraged to reach out if you are interested in different roles or want to stay in touch.

But here is the key. Every application is still reviewed by a real person. No AI does our shortlisting. No algorithm decides if you are a fit. When we give feedback, it is personal. If you are not moving forward, we will tell you why and where we think you might be better suited. If we think you are close, we will give you advice to help bridge the gap.

Because good recruitment is not just about speed or efficiency. It is about respect. Even when the answer is no.

WHAT AI CANNOT DO

Culture Fit
AI cannot tell you if someone will thrive in your team. It does not know your dynamics, your quirks or the values that really matter. That is something only humans can pick up.

Growth Potential
AI filters for what is there now. We look for what could be. That means spotting grit, courage and adaptability. Things that do not show up in keyword scans.

Real Care
Tech cannot build trust. It cannot explain next steps with empathy or give you honest advice when you have missed out. That is us. Picking up the phone. Having the conversation. Showing up with context and care.

THE SENSE APPROACH

We use tech to support what we do, not to replace it. We embrace innovation, but we do not outsource judgement. Every application is reviewed by a real person. Every candidate gets feedback. Every placement is built on trust.

Because tech is part of the future.
But people are our purpose.
Always.
